The Artistry of… David Hazeltine
He’s a modern-day jazz piano artist. His is an artistry built on a set of combined components that put him in the envious position of seeing and creating from many peaks: improvisation, on-point technique, sensitivity in accompaniment, adventure and respect in arranging, and exploration in composition.
David holds the distinction of being the most recorded contemporary jazz piano player of his time, with a staggering 35 albums as leader and hundreds more as a member of the band.
His story starts early, with him playing in clubs as a pre-teen and being noticed by the likes of Sonny Stitt and Chet Baker. His artistry takes you on adventures mixed with familiarity and just enough skillfully placed innovation to keep you wondering what might be just around his musical corners.
The Artistry of… is a special series that airs every Wednesday evening on Dinner Jazz with John Devenish.
