The Artistry of… Tia Brazda
What does it really mean when you can be described as having a retro style? I figure you can be one of a few things: a consummate practitioner of a curatorial attentiveness to context and elements of a particular time and setting, or, more creatively, you are sensitive to traits and details but bravely and confidently blend in contemporary influences that surround us all in the present. It is about being adventurous enough to update without being cavalier.
Vocalist Tia Brazda’s website bio has a line that describes her as “…paying homage to the golden era while adding a modern twist.” In describing her album of originals, Daydream, phrases and words like “positive outlook on various states of romance,” “brave new musical path,” and “optimistic, can’t-miss enthusiasm” illuminate her artistry — vivid and in colour.
The Artistry of… airs Wednesday evenings on Dinner Jazz with John Devenish.
