The Artistry of… Michael Kaeshammer
Have you ever been to an airshow and seen the stunt pilots doing those brazen tricks with their airplanes? The loop-the-loop-and-other-way-out aerial maneuvers and acrobatics? You look up at them amazed and transfixed and say, “Man, that’s crazy,” or, “That looks like a whole bunch of fun.” I am sure the pilots do have fun with the thrills of the rolls and dives and upside-down passes, but to do that you have to have super basic flying skills that are honed to a sharp edge. Mix in nerves of steel!
Michael Kaeshammer is like those stunt pilots. His music-making is a roller-coaster ride of thrills, but do not be fooled — it is not reckless. It comes from sharp skill and focus. Loop-the-loop indeed, it is sophisticated fun. A whole bunch of double-dare-ya in the musical blue yonder.
The Artistry of… is a weekly series that reflects on the passion and essence of an artist. It airs Wednesday evenings on Dinner Jazz with John Devenish.
