George Gershwin, the renowned composer of jazz and popular music in the 1920s and ’30s, will be the inspiration for a new film co-produced by Martin Scorsese and directed by John Carney.
Fascinating Rhythm, named after one of Gershwin’s best-known works, will be a musical drama influenced by the life and music of the celebrated composer. The film is not expected to be a biopic, but rather will focus on “a young woman’s magical journey through past and present New York City.”
The producers are working in cooperation with the Gershwin estate, and his music will be featured throughout the film.
Carney is best known as the showrunner and executive producer of the TV series Modern Love and as the writer and director of the 2007 film Once and the 2016 film Sing Street. He’s co-writing the screenplay with Chris Cluess (SCTV, Night Court).
Scorsese is producing the film with Irwin Winkler.
