Christian McBride’s New Jawn is back with Prime, the quartet’s highly anticipated sophomore album.
Led by the eight-time Grammy-winning bassist and composer, the band features trumpeter Josh Evans, saxophonist and bass clarinetist Marcus Strickland and drummer Nasheet Waits.
The eight-song album features original compositions from each band member, along with fresh takes on songs from Sonny Rollins, Ornette Coleman and Larry Young.

“I think that all of us are at our prime as musicians,” McBride says, explaining the album’s title. “No, I’ll think positive — we’re almost at our prime.”
An elder statesman of contemporary jazz, McBride has built a strong reputation as both a globally esteemed artist and a respected authority and advocate for the music. In the past year alone, he received his 16th Grammy nomination and swept DownBeat’s 2022 Readers Poll, winning artist of the year, bassist of the year and producer of the year.
