JAZZ.FM91 is proud to announce that Caleb Khuu is the winner of the 2021 John Hastings Award.

The award is given to a member of the JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band who has demonstrated considerable musical development and leadership. The award comes with a $1,000 prize.

Khuu is a 17-year-old guitarist based in Waterloo, Ont., who is currently in his third year as a member of the JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band, under the direction of Jules Estrin. He is also a member of the Royal City Big Band and the KW Big Band Theory, and he leads his own trio.

“I’ll truly never forget the experiences I’ve had in [the JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band] and I hope to continue making music an integral part of my life for many years to come,” Khuu says.
